Becoming a diver (part 2)

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

I have been trying to become a qualified diving instructor and have spent the summer in Hurghada. My time there was fabulous and I met nice people, but I did not dive enough to qualify for a dream diving job. The good thing was that I receive some great advice and a route to move forward.

One thing that did surprise me was the cost of living during my stay in one of these Red Sea resorts. I has wildly miscalculated the cost, and had run out of money by the end of the third week in Egypt. Thankfully I managed to secure some bar work in one of the many luxury hotels. I also had some promotional work flogging Egypt holidays from within a small office, from which I was able to earn a little extra cash. At the end of my five week stay I had a great tan but had not moved that much closer to realising my ambition.

So it was goodbye to luxury Egypt and hello Brighton – the search for an organised diving professional course had begun. I had to look out for the PADI IDC professional diving qualification, which was the industry standard for the world. The PADI course (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) involves much more than diving experience and can be quite complex. As well as being good at life saving, you are expected to know about law, business, sales and marketing. Although this course exists in resorts such as Hurghada, it is generally oversubscribed so booking in advance is a good idea. Once qualified, you can find any IDC centre throughout the world and put yourself forward for an amazing job. The people interested in the diving instruction are like me, committed to taking their open water course.

As I progress through the course over the coming months, I will report on how things are going and whether my goals are still in sight.

Learning how to dive in Egypt

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

I was tired of my everyday lifestyle at work, bored with the sounds, smells and people. I suppose it was a mid-life crisis, you could call it anything you want to. The facts spoke for themselves - I was stuck in a rut and exhausting my imagination for a way to change things. I didn’t have that many hobbies or interests that could be channelled into a new direction, but I did enjoy diving.

I am certainly no expert scuba specialist, but I did take an introductory course about ten years ago. i had done a basic beginner’s course in a local pool, that taught us basic lifesaving techniques and how to breathe through a snokel. Nothing that was going to make a big splash, if you pardon the pun! Our group did eventually do some shallow diving on a wreck somewhere off Littlehampton. Good experience for learning the etiquette, but not much fun as visibility was zero. The visual results would have been the same as if I had put a bucket on my head whilst swimming in the sea!

I had the idea that I would be instructing lovey ladies how to scuba dive, whilst living and working in a place like Hurghada or Taba. These types of action-based vacations are extremely popular and are reflected in the numbers of people searching for Egypt holidays online.

I have already booked my summer holiday - I will be off to Egypt for up to five weeks with aim of getting on one of the best diving courses in the area. Hurghada hotels are considered to be some of the best in the country, and are generally affordable.

Whilst planning for this trip to Egypt, my over-active imagination had me discovering lost treasures in the Valley of the Kings, and sailing luxury liners on Nile cruises. For now these fantasies had to wait, the first step was to become a scuba diving instructor so that I could wave goodbye to the fax machine!

Talk of increase in Christmas holidays this year!

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

It has come to that time of the year, the time where people need to start booking holidays for the Christmas period. Tour operators and airlines across the world have a made a loss on profits this year. The holiday’s district has not done very well throughout this year, mainly due to the recession, but also due to incorrect weather forecasts, indicating a warm summer in Britain.

Now however, tour operators are saying that Christmas will receive a massive influx of holidays because of the lack of holidays during the summer season. The Christmas period does receive a lot of attention for holidays any way. Hopefully what this means is that the increase in customers coming to tour operators will mean an increase in their profits.

So will the Christmas holidays start to flood in? In order to get all the customers that they want, the tour operators are throwing out as many deals as they can. Looking at the figures for holiday bookings, it would seem that people want to use Christmas as a holiday away in the Caribbean as well.

St Lucia and Barbados seem to be some of the most popular holiday destinations around the world. In Fact they are even more popular at Christmas time. Now i don’t know about everyone else, but i find it odd that people would like to go on holiday to tropical climates at Christmas time. When I was younger and even now, the joy of a snowy Christmas always gave me such fun and excitement. When i think about Christmas time, my ideal one would be a white Christmas.

How do we all feel about the weather now? Snow seems to be one of the climates that we don’t seem to be bothered with. The sun and clear blue seas are what compel us to embark on Caribbean holidays. Maybe Christmas has just become one of those days of the year that we just consider a normal day now!

Christmas holidays to be on the rise this year!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Christmas is here, and with a passion, tour operators are ready to start receiving your calls for your holidays. If you are in the travel industry, you more than likely would have seen a loss in profits this year. The holiday’s district has not done very well throughout this year, mainly due to the recession, but also due to incorrect weather forecasts, indicating a warm summer in Britain.

Tour operators now believe, that because the holiday industry did so badly over the spring and summer, that they expect Christmas holidays to see a major increase in bookings over September and October. The Christmas period does receive a lot of attention for holidays any way. This means that there could be an increase in tourism sales this year, and could help bring some tour operators back into the profit margins they so desire.

So will the Christmas holidays start to flood in? Now that the Christmas period has come along, tour operators are competing for the passengers and customers, deals are going crazy. Looking at the figures for holiday bookings, it would seem that people want to use Christmas as a holiday away in the Caribbean as well.

St Lucia and Barbados seem to be some of the most popular holiday destinations around the world. Christmas time seems to be the time when they are even more popular than normal. I find it strange that people would like to go to warm countries on a Christmas holiday. When I was younger and even now, the joy of a snowy Christmas always gave me such fun and excitement. When i think about Christmas time, my ideal one would be a white Christmas.

So does the weather have that much impact on our decisions anymore? Nowadays we don’t seem to be that concerned with snow at Christmas time now. The sun and clear blue seas are what compel us to embark on Caribbean holidays. And maybe there is nothing wrong with this, maybe Christmas is just becoming another one of those days in the year!

How to combine golfing and diving in paradise

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Treasure hunters are no longer looking for just Ancient Egyptian antiquities. The Europeans are now seeking new ‘treasures’ in the form of diving and golfing holidays. It must be the combination of the beautiful hot weather and its position close to the sea.

Most of the resorts are based near the Red Sea, although you can now find accommodation on the Mediterranean coast. Sidi Abdel Rahman, on the north coast, is a popular destination offering stunning white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea water. However, if you are looking for luxury holidays near to golf courses and diving centres, you have to head to the Red Sea Riviera.

There are many resorts in this stretch of coastline including Sharm-El-Sheik and Hurghada, all of which have developed at a frightening pace. A huge industry has grown around these resorts, which have risen out of the dust during the last 20 years.

luxury hotels Contrasting with the timeless Pyramids are the newly built hotels which have risen up Phoenix-like from sandy foundations. History and golf in perfect synergy, that’s the Egyptian town of Luxor. The Royal Valley Golf club, designed by Athur Davis the American architect, is quite close to Hurghada airport, and boast top class golfing facilities. It doesn’t take long to reach some of the country’s finest ancient treasures like the temple of Karnak and the temple of Luxor.

If you wish to combine the best golf and beach resort facilities, it worth heading to the resort of Hurghada. Hurghada hotels boast some of the best hospitality around the whole of the Red Sea Riviera, a fact reflected in the massive growth of visitors over a short period of time. Here you will find an underwater paradise – a dream for any diver or snorkeller!

Christmas holidays, they are booked much more in advance than your normal holiday!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

If we could all see the bookings of Christmas holidays, you would easily find that these holidays are being booked much earlier on in the year. The great thing about Summer holidays, is that last minute bookings can be quite fun.

This however is not all that successful with Christmas holidays. Christmas holidays require planning, a last minute one could go so wrong! If you have a family and you know you want to go abroad, this will need to be booked in advance, last minute holidays are extremely difficult to arrange around the Christmas period. You need to take into account all the family, and all the presents that you have bought, you can’t take them with you, or can you, there is a lot to think about?

These issues are the main reasons why booking a holiday last minute for Christmas won’t work. Booking a summer holiday is so much easier last minute. Make sure that you can get the time off work, and then check the house, and your on your way. If you want to book a holiday in advance for a reasonable price, now you can, with luxury holidays cheaper than ever before.

If you look for a holiday around Christmas time, you will be hard pressed to find one. Booking a last minute holiday around Christmas could be very difficult, in fact a lot of places will be sold out already, although some are definitely trying to gain some extra flights and seats for families to purchase some holidays. Finding a seat on a flight, for your Christmas holiday is very difficult, that is one reason why last minute holidays aren’t always appropriate!

Luxury holidays and Winter holidays are the best way to spend your Christmas?

Top 3 resorts in the Maldives – a must visit, amazing looking resorts!

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Recently I embarked on a holiday to the Maldives, what an amazing truly great experience. I did much investigation into which of these resorts would best suit me, so after my holiday I decided to share my info with you. As i was researching i managed to get down to three resorts that were just right.

First up is the Lily Beach Resort and spa at Huvahendoo. It was clearly a hotel built for the royalty of the world. On a small island there isn’t much to do other than relax and get seriously pampered. If you want to feel like a king or queen, then you need to book a holiday to this place, one warning is that it’s not all that cheap. If you want to go and learn how to dive, then this hotel is great. There is a sports complex as well so if you fancy a work out then you have all you need.

Now we have the Diva Island Resort. This hotel even supplies you with your own little villa complex including a pool, the service is unbelievable. The villas that you stay in are of amazing luxurious quality, and the swimming pools are as clear as the ocean. You won’t find it hard to find a small private spot on the beach to chill, the beach runs for miles all the way around. This is probably the most heaven like place to be, a small paradise that’s for you to enjoy. This resort is also a little cheaper than the Lily Beach.

Last but by no means is least the Baros Maldives hotel. This island stands out apart from the others, because it has a forest in the centre of it, but the beaches are just as nice as the others. And the accommodation is just as good as the others. There is no chance of getting stressed here, the hotel works at its best to keep you calm and relaxed. There was also a biologist here, he talked me through some of the wildlife, and told me some very interesting facts. If there are some of you that like Big Game fishing, then you’re in the right place? This place is great for swimming with whale sharks and fishing for some rather large fish. If you have ever fancied doing it, there is a chance to go sailing on a Catamaran.

So I would recommend one of these for Maldives holidays, but if you’re looking for a similar yet not as expensive holiday, try Sri Lanka holidays, they are just as luxurious, and known for their spa treatments!  For holidays of truly major expense, you should go for Dubai holidays, the holidays of kings.

Make sure that you book your holiday to the Maldives ASAP, global warming could destroy them in 50 years!

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Tourism has now become one of the Maldives biggest money spinner. In total the Maldives make up a total of 1192 small islands known as islets. It is also a very unique set of islands. This is a very unique region, this is the lowest place on earth, only just above sea level.

The fact that it is only about one and a half metres above sea level, mean that it is in extreme danger of the effects of Global Warming. As sea levels are rising every year, there will be less and less of the Maldives islands as time passes by. This fantastical set of islets is also home to some amazing wildlife. Some of the wildlife brings a lot people to the Maldives, especially divers, who want to catch a glimpse of the whale shark. Because of the wildlife the Maldives attract many different kinds of people, mainly environmentalists, those who know that at some point in the future, these creatures may not be around.

The Maldives is now becoming heavily dependant on tourism, and is shifting its main income from fisheries towards tourism. Thanks to tour operators taking a great interest in the Maldive islands, they have started to become a main holiday destination in the world. Although they do have a rainy seasons every year, the Maldives always stays warm and humid, and if you ask me, a spa holiday in the rain is very relaxing.

However a major problem facing the Maldives is that the entire collection of islands is threatened by tsunami. The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami caused damage to almost all of the islands, and if a larger one were to hit it again, odds are that the islands could completely vanish. So maybe a holiday to the Maldives would be a good idea sooner rather than later?

For some of the best holidays imaginable then you should try; Maldives holidays, Sri Lanka holidays or Dubai holidays.
