Hotels That Know How To Look After The Kids

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Even if you’re holidaying with the whole family it’s nice to know you can relinquish a bit of responsibility for the kids from time to time. And choosing a hotel that turns a nice family holiday into a fantastic family holiday isn’t all that difficult if you know what to look for.
A family friendly hotel will always offer a cheery welcome to your kids - even if you’ve been on the road for ten hours and your little ones are tired, hot and grumpy when you arrive.

Providing little extras such as colouring sets and activity packs, many hotels go the extra distance in ensuring your children settle in straight away. And your children will soon get to know the staff members who actively go out of their way to make sure they’re having a great time.

Hotels with children’s clubs, games rooms and mini gyms are always popular with younger guests. With designated times for activities and games, if you’re not careful you could end up planning your holiday around your little one’s social life. But at least you’ll have some time to yourselves - and the luxury of a relaxing grown up drink or two in the bar. If the hotel you choose has a variety of facilities to keep the kids entertained, it shows a commitment to their happiness and enjoyment - which can only be a relief for everyone.

If you’re visiting a hotel with a baby or toddler, if they provide a formal babysitting service it might just turn out to be the highlight of your whole stay. You’ll be able to dress up and enjoy a dinner in the restaurant knowing your child is in safe hands.

If you’re taking older children then look for a swimming pool, gym or tennis court to help keep them active and entertained while they’re away. But do make sure you check the terms surrounding the use of a hotel Spa - a disappointed teenager is never nice to be around.

If you can view the kids menu before you book, it’s a great way of gauging whether your chosen hotel knows a thing or two about children. Whilst we all want our children to eat healthily, there comes a time when we’re just happy for them to eat - and none more so when we’re paying for it in a hotel! So just because it’s labelled “children’s menu”, this doesn’t mean the food just be bland and uninspiring. Meal-time should be a pleasure rather than a pain - especially when you’re on holiday. A child friendly hotel will go the extra mile in ensuring its kid’s meals are creative, tasty and nutritious.

For most people, the cost has a great implication on the hotel you choose. If a hotel genuinely welcomes children, they should offer good deals to tempt you to take your family along. If you can get free or discounted accommodation and meals for your little ones to boot, it’s safe to say the hotel actively encourages you to bring the whole family for an enjoyable time together.

Selecting The Right San Diego Hotel Rooms

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

So you are going abroad, you’ve selected your destination and now you have to choose a hotel.  The 21st Century method to select and book your hotel is of course on the Internet, by using travel websites.

But how do you sift through the incredible choices on offer? And more importantly, do you truly believe in the photographs and descriptions of the hotels that they have awarded themselves with the motivation of getting bookings?

Traveler reviews can be helpful, but you have to exercise caution. They are often biased, occasionally out of date, and might not fulfill your interests in any way. How do you know that the features that are essential to the reviewer are essential for you?

Here are some of the crucial details you should bear in mind:

1. Location:  if it is important that your hotel is, for instance, on the beach, close to the theme park, or convenient for the airport, then location is paramount.

2. Style: it is important to select a hotel that makes you really feel comfortable - modern or traditional furnishings, local decor or international, formal or relaxed.

3. Restaurants, Cafes and Bars: local color is great but the hotel’s own restaurants and bars can play an important role in your stay.  You ought to be aware of choice, style and regardless of whether they are smart or informal.

4. Bedroom Facilities: you ought to often very carefully consider the kind of facilities you need from your bed room and find the hotel which has individuals you consider essential.  The hotel directory website should intricate on matters like: bed size, Internet Access (its cost, regardless of whether there is WIFI or wired broadband connection), complimentary amenities, views from the room and luxury offerings like a Pillow menu or Bath menu, choice of smoking or non smoking rooms and so on.

5. Children’s’ Facilities:  more essential to the family traveler than the business traveler, you should find out just how child friendly the hotel is from the directory and make your decision from there.  One thing worth looking for is regardless of whether the hotel provides a baby sitters service.

6. Leisure Amenities: the site should offer a detailed analysis of leisure services within the hotel - spa, pool, fitness center, sauna - and also particulars of any other amenities nearby just like golf courses.

7. Special Needs: the hotel directory website should suggest the visitor of each hotel’s special needs services and accessibility policy.

Finally and most importantly, the quality hotel directory inspection team should have visited the hotel in query on a regular basis, met the staff, slept in a bed room and tried the food.  They should encounter the hotel as only a hotel guest can and it is only then that they are truly in a strong position to write about the hotel.

Trials And Tribulations Of Staying In A Hotel

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

It’s always exciting to know that you’ll be escaping to a hotel for a few days, but there can seem to be so much to arrange before you can switch into “holiday mode” that you might sometimes wonder if it’s worth the stress. To begin with, how do you choose the right destination? Is there a particular location you wish to visit, or are you open to anywhere that suddenly takes your fancy? Do you want small and intimate - or an all singing all dancing affair with Olympic size swimming pool and fabulous Spa? With mail shot brochures, television adverts and fancy websites all promising the best hotel deals on the planet you might be reaching for the headache pills before you’ve even switched on the computer. Recommendations from friends can be a good start, or check out independent review sites on the internet.

Are you looking for a hotel by the sea or in the city? Luggage is usually heavy and cumbersome, so if you’re going by train, a hotel within walking distance of the station is perhaps worth considering. After all, dragging a bulging suitcase through a busy town centre isn’t the best start to a holiday. If you’re heading to your destination by car you should always check if your chosen hotel has parking facilities, and how much they’ll cost - if you’re lucky, they may even be free! If you do want to be in a particular spot, do your homework and make sure the hotel is actually where it claims to be. Just because it’s called ‘Seashore View’ doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a sandy beach right outside the front door.

If you’re taking the whole clan be sure to ask about family discounts, and make sure you ask for written confirmation of any offers made to you at the time of booking. It might save time - and argument - when you come to check out at the end of your stay.

If you’re hoping for a romantic getaway try and avoid hotels that offer great facilities for kids. Many a candlelight dinner has been ruined by someone else’s offspring screaming blue murder at the next table because they can’t get their own way. Worst still, you’ll only get even more wound up and stressed out when they’re in the next room to you with the TV on full blast at six the next morning.

On the subject of eating, if fine food is at the top of your list of priorities, ensure the hotel has a restaurant that lives up to the standards you expect. Even if you only book bed and breakfast, and you have the option of dining out in the evening at local eateries, it’s nice to know there’s a top notch restaurant right there in the hotel for those nights you really can’t be bothered going anywhere else.

Finally, remember, a holiday needn’t be ruined by faulty air conditioning, lumpy pillows or a TV that doesn’t work. If the staff at your chosen hotel is friendly and caring, there’s not much that can’t be overcome - and a good time should be had by all.

Packing For A Short Break With Children

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

You’re looking forward to your well deserved break with the family - but you’d be forgiven for not looking forward to packing for it. But with a little thought and planning you can turn packing for your holiday into an effortless task - by eliminating the need to pack everything but the kitchen sink.

It’s sensible to take low maintenance clothes. Clothes that crease easily - or that you only wear very occasionaly - should probably be left at home. If you’re going to be visiting the hotel restaurant - or eating out in the evening - you could always pack something a little dressier to make you feel special. But it’s wise to leave those six inch heels at home. There’s a time and a place - and a family holiday with the kids probably isn’t either.

If you’re visiting a seaside resort, remember swim suits and arm bands, beach towels and sun cream. And even if you’re expecting a heat wave, it’s a good idea to pack lightweight coats - after all, the good old British weather does occasionally catch us all out!

For all that sightseeing you might be planning; you’ll all need a pair of comfy shoes. And if you’re anticipating lots of walking - maybe a box of plasters just in case. And on the subject of medical supplies, it’s worth it to include some medicine for the children. If they wake up in the middle of the night with a fever, at least you’ll be able to give them some comfort without pacing the corridors or donning your coat and trawling the streets for a 24 hour chemist.

Lots of hotels provide complimentary toiletries these days but, if you’re taking your own, it’s worth buying small travel size bottles as they take up less room than standard bottles. And when you’ve used up the contents, you can simply rinse out the bottles and re-fill them with your usual brand when you go on your next trip.

If your child is afraid of the dark - and they’re going to be sharing your room - it’s a good idea to take a little battery operated night light to set up next to their bed. And remember their favourite teddy. That way they’ll be able to sleep soundly - and so will you!
Whilst many hotels offer colouring books and crayons to their younger guests, they don’t take up much room in your suitcase and could be just the ticket when you want a wallow in the bath with no interruptions.

On the subject of your little ones, they can be prone to creating a mess at mealtimes, so if you’ve a small person who has a tendency to dribble, make sure you’ve packed enough extra clothing to allow for spillages.

Finally, if the children are getting under your feet whilst you try to pack - why not get them to help? Send them off to look for items you need. And if the thought of it puts the fear of God in you, don’t worry - if anything gets forgotten you can at least blame someone else!

What The Kids Love About A 4 Star Hotel

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

There’s one thing for sure - kids aren’t daft. They love visiting a quality 4 star hotel as much as their mums and dads - and probably for many similar reasons.

They love the attention lavished on them from the hotel staff and the fact that they think they’re being treated with more respect than mum and dad could ever give them! And whilst there’s every chance they’re waited on hand and foot at home, it’s a real eye opener to visit a luxury hotel and see how it really should be done.

Lots of hotels will provide gifts to keep younger gifts happy and make them feel extra welcome. These can range from bags of sweets on the pillow, to cookies at bedtime or activity sets with competitions and prizes on offer. They’re a sure way of bringing a smile to their faces and making sure your children remember their hotel stay for a long time to come.

During your holiday your little ones will no doubt beg you - repeatedly and maybe very loudly - to go to the swimming pool with them. And then no doubt they’ll be asking to visit the Spa - and the tennis courts. You may even find some hotels with specific swim times for children.

Generally, both parents and kids alike seem to like this arrangement! With not enough hours in the day to do everything that’s on offer, they’ll go to bed tired and happy; knowing that tomorrow promises an equal amount of fun and games. What you’ve got to ask yourself is - will you be able to keep up?

If you choose a hotel that specifically caters for kids, there will probably be activities and opportunities for all sorts of entertainment. There may be a children’s gym, crèche, activity club or designated games room. They’ll be able to make new friends and get together with other children the same age to socialise and play sports. In fact, you might see so little of them that you forget you’ve brought them along with you in the first place!

And we mustn’t forget breakfast every morning. There’s nothing more certain to get your little ones (and you) out of bed with a spring in their (and your) step than the promise of endless fruit juice and the smell of bacon, egg and all the trimmings. And they’ll no doubt quickly notice how relaxed mum and dad are - with no cooking or washing up to do.

Of course there’s also the guest room. After a hectic day the kids can lie back and wallow in style on crisp clean sheets and a comfy bed, remote control in hand. And they’re totally safe in the knowledge that mum and dad are having a civilised drink in the bar downstairs and have absolutely no idea what they’re watching upstairs. But as long as they remember to tuck teddy in at bedtime, everyone’ll be happy. For there’s nothing quite like a great quality 4 star hotel break to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
